Susan,

You add breadth and depth to the topic of positive applications of Twitter and other social media tools.

Pointing out its use in corporations is about the "merits of what we have to say" versus what's politically desirable is very encouraging, as it speaks to our desire and need for openness, transparency and trust.

Trust and openness are keys to increasing understanding, tolerance, acceptance and collaboration in corporations, communities, countries and continents.

How promising! Thanks so much for your great contribution.

Fun, engaging and meaningful sum up my experience with Twitter as well. I am not sure I have a vision for social media per se, but I do see so many amazing possibilities. It has the power to democratize communication in our world. It takes the corporate filters out of the equation and empowers us as individual communicators. We are increasingly being listened to based on the merits of what we have to say rather than based on the agenda of corporate or government entities. I have read that blogging is becoming big in countries like Iran - it is becoming increasingly difficult to suppress people's voices. Free speech is essential to change and with it there is the possibility that freedom follows.

It has been said that "you can't hate someone whose story you know". I can only hope that by increasing our connections and level of connection throughout the world we can discover more reasons to love than to hate. Nonetheless we have so much to learn about what it will take to create a peaceful global community.

Lynda, thank you for your comments.

With an open, beginner's mind, you are ready to learn. What you envision: "a tool for people all over the globe to connect and communicate about what really matters to them; to support each other i their passions be they personal and /or professional" is exactly my sense of what's happening.

When such a ground swell happens, change happens fast. Our responsibility is to influence the change, so it is the change the world needs. We all have our own stories about that, of course, but if we believe no one needs to go hungry, die of illnesses that can be cured and the planet is a beautiful place, then those already are some worthy causes to enter into conversation about.

Robyn,
Thanks for your love of Twitter post.
I have an open and empty mind re: Twitter and Facebook. Perhaps I shouldn't even use them in the same breath.

So from my beginner's mind my largest vision for Twitter would be to have it has a tool for people all over the globe to connect and communicate about what really matters to them; to support each other i their passions be they personal and /or professional. perhaps Twitter is already right there doing that. then I confess my ignorance and my interest in joining he world swell.

Best,
Lynda Klau
